Chiropractic Care

We provide advanced spinal correction and chiropractic adjustments utilizing "state of the art" chiropractic techniques. At Grace Chiropractic we utilize numerous adjusting techniques dependent upon the patient's needs and comfort level. Some of these techniques include: Diversified, Gonstead, Palmer Package, Thompson Drop and Activator technique. Never in the history of chiropractic care have chiropractors been able to provide the level of help and expertise that is available today. Many of the newest chiropractic techniques are actually safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before. As a chiropractor who cares about utilizing the most advanced chiropractic techniques, Dr. Andrea Tahmooressi has years of training, expertise and experience in helping patients get pain relief for back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other related conditions originating from the spine.  Dr. Andrea uses a whole body approach and does not just treat the spine, but also restores movement to the extremities (shoulders, hands, elbows, knees and feet) to ensure that the body is functioning maximally.  Chiropractic care can even be used to prevent injuries and help you achieve total health.

Webster Technique For Expectant Mothers

Dr. Andrea Tahmooressi received her Webster Technique certification for treating pregnant women through the ICPA.  The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and diversified adjustment.  The goal of the adjustment is to improve SI joint and sacrum function, improving the biomechanics of the pelvis.  Chiropractic care during pregnancy has been proven to help decrease sciatica, low back pain, breech presentation, round ligament pain, rib pain and heartburn during pregnancy.

Active Release Technique®

ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based soft tissue technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with Active Release Technique. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

How do overuse conditions occur?

Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:

  • acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc),
  • accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
  • not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia).

Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.

What is an ART treatment like?

ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. Dr. Andrea Tahmooressi uses her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.

These treatment protocols - over 500 specific moves - are unique to ART. They allow Dr. Andrea Tahmooressi to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient.  ART is not a cookie-cutter approach.  ART providers must be able to develop a very advanced "feel" for the tissues and their texture, tension and movement.  The basic premise is simple, just not easy.  Shorten the tissue, apply a contact tension and lengthen the tissue or make it slide relative to the adjacent tissue.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

Dr. Andrea uses Adhesion Breakers tools to break up scar tissue, eliminate adhesions in muscle fibers, restore proper movement and eliminate pain associated with overused, tight muscles. The technique can be used post surgically and is effective for acute and chronic conditions alike.  The treatment plan may vary dependent upon the nature of the condition and how long symptoms and dysfunction have been present.  The instruments allow the physician to detect areas in the soft tissue that are not functioning properly and help to restore them to healthy functioning tissue. Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization is great for any kind of tendonitis, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, trigger finger, overuse syndrome, muscular adhesions, etc.

Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology tape has stirred up some attention with professional athletes in the Olympics, CrossFit games and on the football field. Kinesio taping is a technique that was designed by a Japanese chiropractor; Kenzo Kase in the 1970s to facilitate the body’s natural healing process.  It offers a medication-free way to control pain as well as providing support and stability without hindering range of motion.  There are also specific taping methods that are designed to decrease inflammation and bruising by facilitating lymphatic drainage, microscopically lifting the skin. The tape is latex-free and can be worn for days at a time.  You may swim and shower with the tape.  Kinesio Tape is safe for all populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric.

Interferential Stimulation

Interferential therapy is a type of electrical stimulation that can be used for multiple purposes. The main uses are for pain relief, reduced local edema, increased blood and muscle stimulation. The therapy is very comfortable and soothing.

Therapeutic Exercise

After the acute phase, at Grace Chiropractic every patient is taught exercises that are specific for their case. These exercises will help to facilitate the adjustment and allow for a quicker recovery time. Strengthening areas of weakness will also help to ensure that the problem does not easily come back.  Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted therapeutic exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.

Lifestyle Advice

Many of our patients come to see Dr. Andrea to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While Dr. Andrea will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that they enjoy doing most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.

Nutritional Counseling

What does nutrition have to do with chiropractic care? The goal of chiropractic care is to help patients achieve total health and balance with their body, and as part of that goal we provide specific recommendations on nutritional supplements and healthy food choices. Do you know how these supplements and vitamins interact with one another? At our Hendersonville chiropractic clinic, we can provide each patient with a structured nutritional program that is based on their individual needs.
